Homemade BBQ Sauce

This is a great homemade BBQ sauce! Its another recipe from the "Barefoot Contessa", and its quite the smattering of ingredients. She put all different types of sauces together and created this BBQ explosion. I had most of these things on hand, but did have to go purchase a few. I also must not have been awake when I started measuring, because I REALLY should have halved this one. It makes a TON of sauce!! It wasn't too bad though because I was able to freeze a large bowl of it for later... It freezes really well & we thought it tasted even better after being frozen.

We usually use this sauce on chicken, but I've also put it on baby back pork ribs. I also like it because it doesn't have a load of brown sugar like so many BBQ sauces do. Perfection!

Homemade BBQ Sauce

1 Large Yellow Onion, diced
3 Garlic Cloves, minced
1/2 Cup Vegetable Oil
1 (10 oz.) can Tomato Paste
1 Cup Cider Vinegar
1 Cup Honey
1/2 Cup Worcestershire Sauce
1 Cup Dijon Mustard
1/2 Cup Soy Sauce
1 Cup Hoisin Sauce
2 TBSP Chili Powder
1 TBSP Ground Cumin
1/2 TBSP Crushed Red Pepper Flakes

In a large saucepan on low heat, saute onions and garlic in vegetable oil for about 10-15 minutes, or until onions are translucent. Add the rest of the ingredients and simmer uncovered for 30 minutes. Use immediately or store in fridge. You can also put it in an air tight container and freeze for months @ a time.
