Bacon Wrapped Onions

These little delights are probably the easiest side dish you could ever make. I remember seeing something similar on a morning news show years ago, and just recreated it... which isn't hard to do! I forgot to take an after picture, but the only thing different about it is the butter is melted and the bacon is cooked, so you get the idea. Also, you can make these for as many people as you want, since there is really not a "recipe". Half of an onion is one serving.

Bacon Wrapped Onions

Large Onions
Thick Cut Bacon
Butter
Foil

Cut onions in half. Hull out a small amount of the onion on each half (flat side of the onion). Place a small pat of butter in each hole. Wrap a piece of bacon around each onion, and hold in place by wrapping the foil up around the onion {I usually do 2 pieces of foil for this part}. Place on grill or in the oven on a cookie sheet. Bake for about 30-40 minutes, or until onion is soft. Serve warm. Goes really nicely with a meat dish such as steak or ribs.

  1. Interesting idea. I'd never thought of eating an onion by itself before. I always thought it had to be cut up and put inside something else. haha
