Baked Whole Cauliflower

I saw this purple cauliflower at the store and couldn't resist trying it!  Pretty!

1 large head cauliflower
1/4 cup margarine or butter, melted

1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 pinch red pepper flakes
1 pinch dried oregano

I made this dinner, including Annalisa's Roasted Red Pepper sauce, for our anniversary.

Clean cauliflower, trim off leaves and any brown spots.  Place the whole head of cauliflower into a steamer basket, place the basket in a large pot and add one inch of water.  Cover and bring to a boil over medium heat.  Steam for 15-20 minutes or until tender.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.  In a medium bowl, mix together the bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, red pepper flakes, and oregano.  Mix well.  Place the head of cauliflower into a baking dish, brush on melted margarine/butter, then sprinkle the bread-crumb mixture to coat the top.

Bake for about 10-15 minutes, uncovered, or until golden brown.

After I pulled the steamer basket out, the water was emerald!  Cool!

  1. This meal was absolutely amazing. Purple cauliflower + bread crumbs = party time. the red pepper sauce was a welcome, interesting break from traditional sauces.
